Meet Abby Dixon, the Heart Behind New Mom School Westport
New Mom School Westport is led by Abby Dixon, a licensed perinatal mental health counselor and mom of three. For Abby, bringing New Mom School to Westport wasn’t just a professional decision — it was deeply personal.
After the birth of her first child, Abby experienced severe postpartum anxiety and found herself overwhelmed and isolated.
“The support system that once naturally existed for new mothers has eroded, leaving them to navigate the overwhelming transition into motherhood alone,” she says. “What I needed most was a village.”
Abby knows firsthand how life-changing it can be to have a space where moms feel seen, heard, and truly supported — and that’s exactly what she’s creating here in Westport. Her goal is to offer not only expert guidance and education, but also a place where lifelong friendships and genuine community can grow.
“The transformation we see is incredible,” she shares. “Moms leave our classes feeling more confident, less anxious, and deeply connected to a group of women who truly understand them.”
With a background in mental health and a passion for maternal wellness, Abby is on a mission to change the narrative for new moms in Connecticut — starting with one powerful, supportive village at a time.
Why the 4th Trimester Deserves More Support
The fourth trimester — the first three months after birth — is an intense, emotional, and often isolating time. 85% of new moms experience some level of postpartum distress, and 1 in 7 will face postpartum depression. Abby and the team at New Mom School are here to change that.
Through a structured, 8-week series, moms are placed in small, closed groups with others whose babies are the same age. Classes are 90 minutes long and feature expert speakers on everything from lactation and infant sleep to maternal mental health, pelvic floor therapy, and more.
But perhaps the most powerful part? The community. Moms form deep bonds with each other, often staying connected long after the class ends.
