April 8, 2024

During the months following our move to Dallas in 2022, I went through an internal battle. The prior 10 years of running NMS had been the most fulfilling of my life (minus the COVID years ha!) and after being unable to teach and interact with our community, I found myself no longer able to derive that same joy and fulfillment.

The COVID years were TOUGH for me and NMS. I contemplated shutting down numerous times but the support from you, our community, my family and friends is what kept me going, even when we weren’t profitable.

Fast forward to December of 2022 after being in Dallas a few months, I reached out to a friend of mine who is a business broker about potentially selling the Newport studio. He encouraged me to explore the idea of creating a franchise. My dream has always been to open additional locations but I knew I didn’t have the bandwidth to do so and still be the mom I wanted to be. I was raised by a single, working mom and spent my afternoons after school in daycare while seeing my friends’ moms picking them up from school and longed to be able to do that for my kids. Owning NMS gave me the opportunity to do that and be present in a way I had always wished my mom had been.

The franchise model was something I wasn’t familiar with and I wasn’t sure I was up for the challenge but I did my due diligence and eventually decided to move forward with creating the franchise. It was a labor of love, took longer than promised and was more work than I was told it would be. But here we are and I am SO glad I pushed through. The amount of support and excitement we have had is incredible and keeps me going. The ability to help more moms and support women in their entrepreneurial dreams are my two greatest passions.

With being so far away from Newport and this new direction and chapter of New Mom School, it became increasingly clear that Newport needs an owner who is local, engaged in the community and can give it the same love and attention I did for the years I was there.

So with that, I am THRILLED to share that our very own Becca Kushner is the proud new owner of New Mom School – Newport Mesa! Please join me in congratulating her on this new venture of hers and being the first official NMS franchisee in operation!

Thank you for all of your love and support over the years! I have loved being a part of your motherhood journeys and am so proud of this community we have built together over the years. I look forward to staying in touch and continuing to watch NMS Newport grow and flourish under Becca’s leadership and love.

All my love,
Alex
