Meet Riya Dhaliwal, the Heart Behind New Mom School South Bay

New Mom School South Bay is led by Riya Dhaliwal, a mom of two (Simi, 3, and Tej, 8 months), healthtech veteran, certified doula, childbirth educator, and perinatal behavioral health coach. But more than anything, she’s a mom who remembers exactly what those early postpartum days feel like.

Bringing New Mom School to the South Bay wasn’t just a professional decision, it was deeply personal.

“After my first baby was born, I remember searching for something that didn’t exist here…a space where I could get real answers to all the new-mom questions, but also just feel understood. I wanted to be surrounded by people who were in it with me. Not judged. Not rushed. Just supported. That’s what I want to give other moms now.” – Riya

Her vision was inspired by the flagship New Mom School location in Newport Beach, where she witnessed the power of true connection.

“I kept hearing story after story of moms who met in the newborn series and stayed friends for years, now celebrating their kids’ second or even fifth birthdays side by side. That kind of friendship doesn’t just organically happen in our community. I knew we needed to build this in the South Bay. So many of us are transplants here without family or close friends nearby. And this kind of community can drastically change a new mom’s postpartum experience. It really could be the key difference between surviving and thriving.” – Riya

With 15+ years in healthcare strategy and a lifelong passion for maternal wellness, Riya is on a mission to change the narrative for new moms in the South Bay, starting with one powerful, supportive village at a time.

Why the 4th Trimester Deserves More Support

The fourth trimester,  the first three months after birth , is an intense, emotional, and often isolating time. 85% of new moms experience some level of postpartum distress, and 1 in 7 will face postpartum depression. Riya and the team at New Mom School are here to change that.

Through a structured, 8-week series, moms are placed in small, closed groups with others whose babies are the same age. Classes are 90 minutes long and feature local expert speakers on everything from lactation and infant sleep to maternal mental health, pelvic floor therapy, and more.

But perhaps the most powerful part? The community. Moms form deep bonds with each other, often staying connected long after the class ends.
