Whether you’re expecting your first baby or navigating life with a newborn (or older infant), breastfeeding support can make a world of difference. While feeding your baby is natural, it doesn’t always come easily and having a trusted guide can provide the confidence and clarity you need during an incredibly vulnerable time.
My name is Megan Dean, the owner of Megan Dean Lactation and partner with New Mom School Rancho Cucamonga, together we serve Rancho Cucamonga and surrounding cities throughout the Inland Empire. As a lactation consultant (RN, IBCLC), I offer individualized, evidence-based care that meets families exactly where they are, whether that’s prenatal planning, latch troubleshooting, or navigating work and weaning. Here’s how lactation support helps at every stage:
Prenatal Breastfeeding Support: Planning with Confidence
Lactation support doesn’t have to wait until after baby arrives. In fact, prenatal breastfeeding consultations can be incredibly helpful for setting realistic expectations and creating a customized plan that reflects your personal goals.
During a prenatal visit we cover topics such as:
- Review your medical history and explore any factors that may impact milk production or feeding (such as hormonal imbalances, thyroid issues, previous surgeries, PCOS, etc.)
- Talk through feeding options (exclusive breastfeeding, combo feeding, pumping, bottle use) based on your goals, no judgment, ever
- Offer anticipatory guidance about the early days: what’s normal, what’s not, and how to know if things are going well
- Empower you with a plan for your first latch, signs of a good feed, and when to reach out for help
Postpartum Breastfeeding Support: Getting Off to a Strong Start
The early days with your baby are full of emotion and they can be physically demanding, too. This is when in-person or virtual lactation support becomes essential!
Common reasons families reach out to Lactaction Consultants include:
- Painful latch or nipple pain
- Engorgement, clogged ducts, or mastitis
- Concerns about milk supply (too low or too much)
- Questions about milk transfer and how to know if baby is getting enough
- Support with bottle feeding while maintaining breastfeeding
- Pumping education, flange sizing, and optimizing output
- Full oral function assessment for tongue ties, lip ties, and more
These issues can feel overwhelming and without the right support, many moms feel discouraged. As a Lactation Consultant our role is to help you find relief, get answers, and move forward feeling supported and confident.
Ongoing Feeding Support: As Your Baby Grows
Breastfeeding and pumping don’t stop at 6 weeks, and neither does support. As your baby grows, your feeding journey evolves too.
Lactation Consultants provide care for families navigating:
- Returning to work and creating a pumping plan
- Introducing solid foods while maintaining milk feeds
- Balancing bottle and breast for combo feeding
- Teething, biting, distractions, and other changes
- Weaning — based on your timeline and comfort
Every family’s path is unique and there’s no “one right way” to feed your baby. We offer judgment-free, expert guidance that empowers you to make informed choices for your body and your baby.
