Can you believe we’re already in May? Somehow the weeks blur together—and yet here we are, nearly halfway through the year. As moms, we hear it all the time: “Time is a thief.” And honestly? It’s true. These early years go by in a blink.
That phrase has become a gentle reminder for me—to slow down, to take in the little things, and to stay present not just with my family, but with myself.
And that’s exactly why I want to talk about Mother’s Day.
Whether this is your first one or your tenth, I want to encourage you to take a moment and really think about what you want out of the day. Not what your partner assumes, not what social media tells you it should look like—you. What would actually feel good, meaningful, or restorative?
Do you want the full breakfast-in-bed experience? Or a few quiet hours to yourself? Maybe you’d love a bouquet of flowers—or maybe just a handmade card and a long nap sounds like a dream. Whatever comes to mind is valid.
But here’s the important part: say it out loud. So many of us walk into Mother’s Day with unspoken hopes and walk away feeling unseen—not because people don’t care, but because we never told them what we needed.
I’ve been there. I’ve shared before how my first Mother’s Day didn’t go quite the way I imagined. (You can watch that story [here].) Since then, I’ve learned that asking for what I need—without guilt—is a gift in itself.
So I hope this year, you’ll pause and check in with yourself. What would feel good? What would make you feel loved, appreciated, or just a little more like you again? Then go ahead and ask for it, mama. You deserve that and more.
And if you’re still looking for the perfect way to treat yourself—or a fellow mom—you’re in luck. New Mom School has grown coast to coast, and each of our local studios is sharing top-rated, mom-coveted Mother’s Day gift ideas straight from their own communities.
Head to the locations page, click on the studio nearest you, and check out their local blog to see what gifts moms are loving in your area this year!
Wishing you a day that feels exactly how you want it to.
With love,
